Travel arrangements:

The closest airport is "MCI", Kansas City International airport, Kansas City, Missouri, US.
For travelers outside the US, it is unlikely that you will be able to fly to MCI directly.
There are many transfer points (e.g., Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, New York) all with direct service to MCI.

Note 1: There are two Kansas Cities each on opposite sides of the river ... you want to fly into the Kansas City, Missouri airport, not the Kansas City, Kansas airport.

Note 2: Although the airport code is "MCI", the local people refer to the airport as "KCI" (Kansas City International).

Notes:

• For those staying for the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 meeting: Local hotels are reporting sold out for the weekend of September 20 which is "parents day" at the university. (Other nights should not be a problem if reserved reasonably far in advance.)
• A block of rooms has been reserved at the Ramada Inn (Phone: +1 785 842 7030). Use the code IEEE/ISO to reserve the rooms. The rate should be $60 per night plus tax
• To the best of our knowledge the only hotel with high speed Internet access is the Springhill Suites where it is available in the business center and in some guest rooms.
